Virat Kohli will step down as the T20 Captain after the T20 World cup in October. He mentioned his opinion in social media that gave rude shock to all cricket lovers across the world. Kohli is mentioning the workload is the reason for quitting as T20 captain.
The T20 World cup will start from October’21 in Dubai. Even though the nation lost the WC in 2019, India is one of the toughest nations to face opponents in all three formats of cricket. India had won the Border-Gavaskar trophy twice in a row under Virat Kohli captaincy. His team won its first ever Test series on English soil. But rumors spread about the Virat captaincy after India lost to Kiwis in the WTC final.
Reportedly, Virat faced challenges
with the new selection committee which ignored his word on selection of the
team in recent series. Three ICC trophies India lost under his leadership. This
mounts pressure on Kohli to quit. India lost the Champions Trophy to Pakistan
in 2017, New Zealand beat India in the semi-finals at ICC ODI WC in 2019 and
World Test Championship lost to New Zealand in the final. There is demand
growing to replace Virat with Rohit Sharma for every ICC defeat. On the other
hand, MI won 5 times IPL Champion under Rohit Sharma captaincy since 2013.
Virat Kohli lead RCB has not yet won the IPL trophy till now.
Dressing room politics is another reason for Virat's decision. Kohli faced criticism for excluding Ashwin from playing eleven in recent Test matches against England. Reportedly, players blamed Kohli’s functioning internally for not allowing any batsmen at number 4 position. Poor communication with colleagues is another reason for growing dissidence among the team members. Virat Kohli might not continue as ODI captain till 2023 WC. Former players back Rohit Sharma to replace Virat Kohli as India's T20 captain. Rohit has maintained healthy relations with junior players and has good communication with them.
