Israel, once considered as the first nation to be fully vaccinated in the world, is becoming one of the biggest coronavirus hot spots. For one week, Israel received the highest number of caseloads of anywhere in the world. When many countries like the U.S., UK, Australia and India have not finished the first shot of corona vaccine, Israel was declared as a fully vaccinated nation. But a sudden surge of Delta variant cases in the country made it reconsider its covid strategies. The government is scheduling booster shots to all people including young people to prevent the pandemic.
Israel is currently reporting the highest coronavirus infection rate in the world. The Delta variant grips the country. The country receives approximately more than 10K cases every day which is the highest since the eruption of the pandemic. After announcing the “No Mask” restrictions in the country in May 2021, Israel again imposed restrictions against Covid-19. The government is ready to administer a second booster jab amid the sudden surge of the Delta variant cases in Israel. When every nation considered those who inoculated with two jabs as fully vaccinated individuals, Israel has considered people who inoculated with three shots as fully vaccinated.
Infections jumped because of the prevalence of cases among the unvaccinated, especially in children. The nation re-imposed mandatory restrictions on wearing the masks. New restrictions imposed to stop the rise in cases due to the highly contagious delta variant. Green passes, that show a person has been vaccinated or has recovered from the virus, were made compulsory for entertainment, sports, and cultural venues, gyms, cafés and hotels. As per the study, cases of severe illness reported for the people aged above 50 years accounting for 90% of the cases. As per the reports, more than 600K people aged 60 and above received third booster shots. Analysts feel booster shots might be necessary once a year. They warn the government that if the cases can’t decrease, a fourth lockdown is inevitable.
