9 million infected within a week

Omicron is surging all over the world. In some countries, it is the third wave and in some nations, the fourth and fifth waves started. WHO warns omicron is a less severe but not mild one. There are reports that around 9.5 million people tested positive during last week across the world. Positive cases were increased by 71% in the world when compared to the previous week. In India, new infections hit 7 months high and breach the 100k mark. India’s actual COVID death tally by September 2021 was 6-7 times higher than the official report. The military has deployed to hospitals in the United Kingdom to tackle health resource shortages. 120k NHS staff was out of work due to covid-19. In the United States of America, a record number of children were hospitalized. Every day around 1400 children was hospitalized in the U.S.

Every nation has imposed restrictions on people to counter the variant. China forced the people indoors wherever the government fined the cases. China’s Xian enters the 16th day of lockdown as cases arise. Philippines President Duterte orders police to arrest people who are still unvaccinated and who violate stay-at-home orders. Canada bans flights in and out and the daily death toll exceeds 1,000. Germany’s Bremen which is the most vaccinated region in the country is facing the worst outbreak. 800 people were tested positive per 100k in the region. All these countries have confirmed that the third wave of COVID19 is far more deadly than the first wave.


The biggest casualty is now the supply chain. Omicron surge added fuel to fire for supply chain in the UK which suffered from truck drivers’ shortage. In the United States of America, supermarkets are running out of food and necessities. In Australia, 50% of truck drivers who fall in sick supermarkets are not getting enough supplies. India saw a single-day rise of 1, 41,986 new coronavirus infections. The positivity rate in the national capital rose to 15.34 percent. The total number of cases in the country is 3.52 crore. Omicron is rapidly expanding in the country. The number of cases has now reached 3,007. A new variant was identified in 377 newcomers. Maharashtra has the highest number of 876 victims. In Delhi, the number has risen to 465. Of the 3,000, 1,199 recovered and returned home. This variant has spread to 27 States and Union Territories.
