BlackBerry – End of an era in mobile technology

Two decades back, even though you have your own Nokias, Motoralas and Samsungs one should have BlackBerry for business purposes. BlackBerry is known for its business smartphone image among the people. U.S. Presidents, Prime Ministers of other nations, and Top company CEOs used the BlackBerry mobile phone. It is not just a mobile device it appears to be a status symbol for the people 10 years back. Now the glory of BlackBerry disappeared after Android and Apple invaded the mobile market. BlackBerry is shutting down its remaining services, and users running BlackBerry devices with BlackBerry OS 7.1 and BlackBerry 10.

Canada-based BlackBerry saw a peak in the mobile market in 2007-2011. The company sold out 50 million phones in 2009-10. The market share of BlackBerry comes to single digit in 2013 with 5.9% and the same was enjoyed 43% of the global market in 2010. BlackBerry will shut down permanently, with no data, text, or voice service provided to Blackberry cell phones effective from January 04th onwards. This means that BlackBerry's older devices will no longer be able to use data, send text messages, access the internet, or make calls. Even though iPhone enters the mobile market, BlackBerry has continued to outplay the smartphone market. BlackBerry start downfall after it failed to introduce touch screen devices.

Both Apple and Android grabbed the market from BlackBerry by introducing touch screens. BlackBerry denies first and delays on touch screens that went its customers away from the company. When Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone in 2007, BlackBerry was dominated the market. In 2021, BlackBerry showed its revenue as $893 million from the revenue was the peak of $20 billion in 2011. BlackBerry has launched its last version in 2013. Refusing to adopt the change turns to be fatal and finally closed BlackBerry operations. Companies tend to collapse if they didn’t observe the trends in the market. BlackBerry is the live example for other Tech companies should follow what not to do in the competition.
