Italian dockworkers go on an "indefinite blockade" to protest against covid-19 passports to be allowed to work. Thousands of people joined the workers' strike in solidarity in Trieste, the largest port in Italy. It is not the first time that people went for agitation against the government's decision of having Green Pass certificates. In August month, Italy has decided to impose restrictions on all unvaccinated persons that do not hold the country’s ‘Green Pass’, which is an extension of the EU Digital COVID-19 Certificate. From then onwards, sporadic protests takes place in the country but agitation against Green Pass reached peaks.
Mass Strikes across the Italian ports of Trieste & Genoa called that are now crippling the country as workers walkout in solidarity with those discriminated against by the apartheid 'Green Pass' system. Both public and private sector workers took the streets across Italy to protest against the latest coronavirus mandate. As per the new rule, employees will have to show their Green Pass when they enter the place of work. Employees would treat as absent without payment if they didn’t provide the Green Pass to the authorities. The new rule has caused protests at key ports in Italy causing fear of disruption. Workers went for agitation outside Trieste port which is a maritime gateway for northern parts of the country, Germany, Austria, and Central Europe.
The government puts pressure on both public and private sector employers on implementing the new rule. Public sector employees can be suspended if they are caught five times without any Green Pass while roaming anywhere in the country. Private sector employees would face fines of up to 1,500 Euros if they didn’t provide Green Pass. Even employers could also charge fines up to 1000 Euros if they permit staff to work without Green Pass in Italy. The Green Pass is necessary for the people in Italy to enter museums, theatres, gyms, and restaurants. Italy has completed more than 85% of vaccination of one dose to people over 12 years old. As per government reports, more than 3 million people are still unvaccinated and might cause for spreading of the virus at workplaces.
