Earlier, Beijing was crackdown crypto mining in the country quoting environmental reasons. Its neighbor Russia acts differently on cryptocurrencies. Russia is mulling energy tariffs for crypto mining amid a wave of migration following China's ban. It is exploring various ways to distinguish energy consumption for cryptocurrency mining. The Russian government has been closely monitoring the cryptocurrency market after China imposed restrictions on cryptocurrencies. Russia has become one of the top locations for Bitcoin (BTC) mining activity following the Chinese crackdown.
Some Russian regions like the Irkutsk region, located about 1,700 kilometers from China have reportedly faced explosive growth in energy consumption. Russia President Vladimir Putin said that cryptocurrency has every right to exist and can be used as a means of payment. Putin has identified that crypto has value in a digital world. Putin expressed the opinion that cryptocurrency may well play the role of a unit of account. But Putin feels that t is too early to use cryptocurrencies for pricing oil contracts, citing price volatility. He denies the usage of crypto for trading oil contracts. Even though Russia could move to ban crypto purchases, but Russians would still be able to buy the currencies via foreign intermediaries.
He has participated in the discussion of potential use cases of cryptocurrencies in the market news channels. He said that crypto existence can be used as a means of payment. Putin praises Crypto as possible 'Weaponized' to US dollar replacement. He predicts that President of United States of America Joe Biden’s administration could lead new regulations on cryptocurrencies after the Chinese crackdown. Putin said that it is too early to say whether Russia is considering Bitcoin as a store of wealth to replace the dollar. Russia’s opinion on cryptocurrencies is encouraging for digital currencies.
