Facebook and it's CEO Mark Zuckerberg was again in the news for wrong reasons. What life was like before Social Media apps consumed our energy after services of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp were disrupted worldwide. After 6 hours of outage, the services have been restored. 3.5 billion Facebook company users are not allowed to access social media sites and messaging services. All three social media platforms are owned by Facebook. CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologies the worldwide users through Twitter for causing inconvenience. Facebook claimed the root cause for outage was a faulty configuration change.
Whistle-blower Interview before disruption
A former employee of the company, whistleblower Frances Haugen, made headlines before Facebook services around the world went down for almost seven hours. She revealed her details, pointing out the mistakes going on on Facebook. She sought government protection before revealing the details. Haugen blamed Facebook for giving preference to income rather than security issues. She said that changing the algorithm would make Facebook more secure, but that it would keep people on Facebook longer and that Facebook knew it would get fewer clicks on the ad. Shortly after Haugen live's end, Facebook, its affiliates Instagram and WhatsApp were shut down for almost seven hours, causing a stir around the world.
Facebook and it's affiliates disrupted services since Monday 9 pm. A Facebook spokesperson tweeted at 9:37 p.m. and said it is expected that services will resume within half an hour or so after the announcement. But WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram did not open even after one o'clock at night. Users getting messages when they tried to open the Facebook app, the message was 'Something went wrong .. Please try again'. Mark Zuckerberg loses $7 billion in net worth as Facebook stock falls by 5% in the market. Shares of Facebook plummeted about 5 per cent, adding to a 15 per cent drop since mid-September. 7 hours outage of Facebook services forfeited his personal wealth was reduced by over $7 billion. Now, Zuckerberg stands with $ 120.9 billion in sixth place, behind Bill Gates.
