All about VVIP Helicopter - MI-17V5


 General Rawat flew in the safest air force helicopter. MI-17V5 helicopters are reliable, stable, and large. These are the ones most used by the Air Force. It is also used for the travel of many VIPs, including the President and the Prime Minister, as it can be used in adverse weather conditions. This is the opinion of former military officers on MI-17V5. The MI-17V5 helicopters are manufactured by the Russian company Kazan Helicopters. These helicopters are the latest version of the MI-17 helicopters designed for transportation. More than 12,000 MI-17 helicopters have been sold to 110 countries worldwide so far. Despite the US ban on buying Russian - made helicopters, the U.S. military bought them for use in Afghanistan.


The Pentagon claims that there are no helicopters beyond the Afghan natural and climatic conditions. Known as the most advanced military transport choppers, these helicopters are used by our Army for operations at high altitudes. Defense sources say that these helicopters can work efficiently in any natural area and in any environment. They are said to be the most powerful helicopters used by the Indian Defense Forces. That is why they were used for commando operations during the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai and the surgical strikes in Balakot, Pakistan in 2019. For the first time in December 2008, the Indian Ministry of Defense placed an order for 80 helicopters for $ 1.3 billion. A total of 71 helicopters were ordered by the Ministry of Defense in 2012 and 2013.


·         This chopper is used to move troops, transport, to external sling operations (tying a rope to a helicopter and moving heavy loads through it), and to hit targets on the ground.

  • These helicopters can travel continuously up to a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour and up to 580 kilometers with a full tank of fuel.
  • Their maximum takeoff weight is 13 thousand kg. It can move up to 36 people at once. The sling‌ mechanism can carry a weight of 4500 kg.
  • These helicopters are equipped with special protective shields and are coated with a synthetic foam called polyurethane to prevent the fuel tank from exploding. Because of this, helicopters are very useful to rescue the victims in case of major fire accidents.
