Boycott China is the slogan that rings loud across the nation. This momentum carried to the peaks after Galwan incident. People got anger on China after killing of 20 Indian soldiers. Indians feel China is more dangerous than Pakistan.
New HashTags like #BoycottChinaProducts, #Pick_Local_Kick_Chinese and #TechlessontoChina appear in Social Media. Every Indian showed their angriness towards China’s attitude. Government also charts out the programs to become India as self-reliant.
Will this campaign work out? Can
India really boycott all Chinese products? There are a number of challenges and
options India face with respect to this. China is India’s second largest
trading partner. But China benefits more. In the last financial year, India exported
goods worth $16 billion to China, and imported goods worth $65 billion. $48
billion the trade deficit seems to appear before India to work hard more for
Boycott China. India's import bill is four times bigger than its export to
China.
As a first step, India is targeting cheap imports from China like basic products, ranging from furniture to toys. India can very well make some non-essential products under Make In India those are now imported from China. This will reduce India’s reliance on China. So far, India levies anti-dumping duty for 90 Chinese products. This will increase to 300 more products. Government is taking the initiative to impose curbs on Chinese products after border conflict. It has asked state-run telecom companies to avoid Chinese products, and now wants to keep Chinese products out of the state-run e-commerce platform. Boycotting Chinese Products will happen slowly but surely.
