We know about well-known names like Oxford University, Nalanda University and University of Stanford located at various place. But one shouldn’t know about “University of Jihad” which is located in Pakistan.
Darul Uloom Haqqania in Pakistan’s Akora Khattak, about 60km east of Peshawar, is home to roughly 4,000 students who are fed, clothed and educated for free. Darul Uloom Haqqania is also known as “University of Jihad”. This University produces 4K extremists every year and helps the recruitment for Taliban outfit group.
It is almost recruiting ground for
Taliban. Teachers have preached here Islam fundamentalism. The Darul Uloom
Haqqania seminary has churned out a who’s who of Taliban top brass – including
many now on the hardline group’s negotiating team holding talks with the Kabul
government to end a 20-year war. They claimed that Russia was broken into
pieces by the students of University of Jihad. It has sat at the crossroads of
regional militant violence for years, educating many Pakistanis and Afghan
refugees some of whom returned home to wage war against the Russians and
Americans or preach jihad.
Afghanistan’s leaders argue that
Pakistan’s approval for the madrasas is proof that it backs the Taliban. Graduates
insisted they received no military training at Haqqania and were not obliged to
join the fight in Afghanistan, but admitted jihad was discussed openly,
including in “special lectures” by Afghan instructors. It is the one of the
largest Islamic teaching centers in the world. University of Jihad has long list
of infamous graduates like Mullah Muhammad Umar, Founder of Taliban, Jalaluddin
Haqqani who was the leader of Haqqani Network. Two suspects of the assassination
of Benazir Bhutto in 2007 were studied in this University. Imran Khan’s party
provides funds of $2.7 million to Darul Uloom Haqqania.
