Pandemic hits Japan differently!

Every nation is suffering with the outbreak of coronavirus economically in the world. In case of Japan, pandemic virus hits Japan in two different ways.

In addition to growth rate in the country, Japan expects record low number of newborns in the year 2020. Japan population seems to be unbalanced. The country is suffering with more number of aged populations. Pandemic appears to accelerate decrease in new births in Japan.

The figure is predicted to drop to about 845K births. The number is less than to previous year of births in 2019. Covid-19 has blamed for low numbers of marriages followed by pregnancies. Japan has oldest society in the world. More than 35% of people are in age group of 60-65. The percentage older population might increase further by the end of 2050. The new low birth rate is likely to deepen a demographic crisis rapidly.

Japan government has introduced new measures such as covering fertility treatment with health insurance to encourage new births. The existing low birth rate will major implications for Japanese society. The continued falling birth rate and shrinking population will further complicate the government’s efforts to maintain the national pension, medical and nursing care systems in the coming years. The number of pregnancies reported during the first half of the year, used to estimate the number of newborns between September and December, also dropped amid the pandemic.
