China is looking to increase the retirement age for the
people as part of the solution. But Chinese people express their anger over the
decision. The most worrying factor for Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is that state
pension fund could run dry by 2035. The fertility rate in China is at all-time
low. China’s birth rate has dropped to the lowest since 1949. Those born in
1980’s could become first generation in modern China get no pension if they
retire. The most populated country seems to encourage people for more new
borns.
China is planning to include new measures to encourage more births and address its rapidly aging population as part of its new five year plan 2021-2025. China introduced a controversial “one-child policy” in 1978, saying efforts to reduce poverty and develop the economy. China will offer extensive financial and policy support to encourage couples to have more children. More inclusive population policies will be introduced to improve fertility, the quality of the workforce and the structure of the population. Demographers also predict that on current trends, the number of people of working age could decline by 200 million by 2050.
