Italy occupied second place few days, Spain comes into second place for some days and now Russia occupied second place of having number of positive cases among the world nations. USSR (erstwhile Russia) and US were strong competitors each other in 50’s to 80’s. Russia became faint after USSR split into many in 1991. Corona cases in Russia edge towards 300K.
Russia was nowhere in picture when US
and other European nations faced huge impact of coronavirus. Russian President Vladimir
Putin took some preventive measures like announcing the lockdown on March third
week. He said the country's "non-working period" imposed to curb the
virus had lasted six weeks. It looks like Vladimir Putin has run out of
patience with coronavirus. Millions of workers back to factories and building
sites across Russia, declaring six weeks of full lockdown over. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin
returned to work on after recovery from coronavirus.
Controlled
virus spread across the nation after lifting the lockdown. For the first time
in his active political life, Putin is faced by a problem which is absolutely
not under his control and which broke all of his plans. On other side, Russia
mortality rate is less than 1% that surprised many including WHO. The low
mortality has raised some skeptical eyebrows, but the suggestion that Russia is
actively under-reporting fatalities was angrily denied. Early detection and
earlier hospital treatment may be helping Russia avoid the distressing scenes
of mass graves and overloaded morgues that played out in parts of Europe.
Initially, Russians did well but lifting lockdown not wise decision it seems.
