Is Bharat Biotech's Covaxin first to enter into market?

As per medical history and experts, an effective new vaccine for any disease enters into market after 3 to 5 years of testing at various trials. But vaccine for coronavirus is urgency for all countries.

Every nation is developing own vaccine and hurry to grasp the market by releasing the vaccine. It’s very sad that political parties include free vaccine for coronavirus to people in their manifesto. Russia’s Sputnik-V announced but not yet ready because of incompletion of its trials.

Oxford University COVID-19 vaccine undergoing Phase III clinical trials with British pharma giant AstraZeneca is resuming its work. Covaxin, India’s first Covid-19 vaccine has been cleared for Phase III human trial. This has come as a big encouragement to India’s efforts to develop vaccine on its own. Phase III trial of Covaxin may start from November 1st week. Bharat Biotech is also doing it’s trials in 20 selected sites in the country. Over 20K volunteers will participate in Phase III human trials of Covaxin. Reportedly, Bharat Biotech has more confident on animal study in September which gives strong immune against pandemic virus.

It has been derived from SARS-CoV-2 which was separated by ICMR. Both Bharat Biotech and ICMR are jointly working for pre-clinical and post-clinical development of Covaxin. Indian medical authority DCGI gave permission for two vaccines. One is Covaxin and other one is Zydus Cadila healthcare for Phase I and II trials on humans. India has global manufacturing hub which supplied 60% of vaccines to UNICEF. India’s indigenously developed Covaxin plans to launch by June 2021.
