Second wave of pandemic virus starts in Europe. Countries in Europe are experiencing a fresh spike of Covid-19 cases. The United States on Thursday (October 30th) hit a new record for a single-day increase in coronavirus infections with nearly 97,088 new cases reported, according to data collected from Johns Hopkins University.
The number is the highest ever since the outbreak. Total number of cases has crossed over 9 million marks in the country. Cases are surging in many states, particularly the upper Midwest like Texas and Florida.
Over the past week, new cases in the US have averaged 75K a day. Twenty-five states have set a new record for cases in the last two weeks, including 17 states with record highs since last Wednesday. Several states are setting records across the Midwest and west for infections and hospitalizations, amid the autumn surge. After calm for two months, United States now again leads the list of having the most number of daily cases. 21 states across the US added more cases in the seven-day period than in any other seven-day stretch of the pandemic.
The situation is worrying as the worsening scenario comes in the backdrop of a high-voltage Presidential election. So far, more than 2 lakh people have died in the US. But this has not stopped Trump to brush aside the severity of the situation. Some of the people shared the stats of number of deaths of coronavirus with deaths of World War II in social media. 230,922 Americans died due to Covid-19 dead in last 9 months. This number exceeds half of all US dead during World War II. 408,000 US Combat Deaths in WWII during 3.75 years. US COVID-19 expert Dr Anthony Fauci is expected in the next few months, life is likely to get back to normal in the world by the end of next year.
