Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has issued a statement which dispels rumors it is placed to benefit from new farm laws. The Indian Petroleum giant said that it has no plans of entering contract or corporate farming business.
RIL said it does not purchase food grains directly from the farmers but from suppliers. It seems there is strong reason on RIL statement. In Punjab, around 1500 mobile towers owned by Jio were destroyed. Farmer groups in Punjab have staged protest in front of Reliance Fresh stores. The agitation seems to increase on each passing day both in Punjab and Haryana.
Mukesh Ambani shocked by ban on Reliance products in Punjab and Haryana. That forced him to announce that he has no plans to enter the contract agricultural sector. He declared that we are against commercial agriculture to buy agricultural land in the future. The damage to Jio so far has been in the millions. The number of user switching from Jio to another network has remained the same for over a crore. Analysts believed that farmers protest took ugly turn in Telecom sector. Jio suspects opponents conspiracy in demolishing the towers and filed case Haryana High Court.
Many videos came into viral in social media where farmers were seen burning Jio Sims as a mark of protest against conglomerate. Farmers made an open call for boycotting Ambani and Adani products. Ambani was clarified that ‘neither Reliance nor any of our subsidiaries has purchased any agricultural land, directly or indirectly, in Punjab/Haryana or anywhere else in India, for the purpose of “corporate” or “contract” farming. RIL without blaming the protest directly, it blamed some vested interests and business rivals were behind the vandalism.
