Its popular tech company Google takes on Australian government on proposed new law that made it compulsory for Google or Face Book has commercial agreements with every news organization.
As per the new law any Tech giants should pay for getting content from the country. Google reacted wildly on Australian government and threatens to stop search operations in the country. If Australia passed the bill it will be set an example to the rest of the world. Knowing the consequences of the bill in advance, tech giants have tried hard to stop the bill.
Australian government is introducing a law to address a long-bubbling row over whether tech giants should pay for news that appears in search or is shared on their platforms. Google warns it would be difficult to run its operations in Australia if the bill is implemented. Australian Prime Minister said that he didn’t respond to Google threats. Australia has other options like Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo if Google search not worked in the country. But as per Alexa ranks Google is in first place in search engine operations where as Yahoo stand with 11th and Bing adjusted with 33rd position.
There is an allegation on Tech giants that they made huge revenue and profits with free content. Google and Face Book pay nothing to publishers for the free content they used. Google made $4.7bn from news websites in 2018. This made the governments to implement strict rules on Tech giants on using the free content. Trump government urged Australia not to rush the law. Google is unavailable in mainland of China on hacking allegations. Compared to China, Australia is a much smaller potential market. Australian government has said it wants fair payments to news companies, which have seen print advertising revenue fall by three-quarters over the past 15 years.
