It’s in the United Kingdom again. Sharp surge
infections since mid-April and the B.1.617.2 variant now make up the majority
of new cases in the town of Bolton. The B.1.617.2 variant is first found in
India.
Amid an increase in cases, the UK government is the easing of lockdown rules in some parts of the country. Pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues are being allowed to reopen after being closed for months. More than 6,200 people were vaccinated in Bolton at the weekend amid concerns over the Indian Covid-19 variant.
The Kent variant with the E484K mutation was severely affected in the South West of England during the second wave in the UK. Now, Indian variant will become dominant in the North-West England part. Health experts felt for the measures taken by the government to be delayed after cases of the Indian variant have tripled in the northern part of England. The easing allows people to socialize indoors in limited numbers, hug loved ones and visit pubs and restaurants inside. In Bolton, a big push to get more people vaccinated is bearing fruit.
There is inner fear that Indian variant is the dominant variant not just in the northwest of England but it is replacing the Kent variant. Experiencing the destruction of the Kent variant, authorities speed up the vaccination in northwest England to stop the spreading of the virus. Health officials are targeting door-to-door trace to know about 10,000 people who are eligible but have yet to come forward. The majority of people in hospital with Covid in Bolton was eligible for the vaccine but had not taken the vaccination yet.
