Dr. Fauci three free advises to India

India's Covid cases which have sparked a global concern rose by a record 4.14 lakh infections. This is the second straight day that India has reported over 4 lakh cases. Two days back, the country had hit a grim global record as daily cases passed the 4 lakh-mark in a first.

India sees the biggest daily surge in positive cases. Prime Minister Modi gave the option of imposing lockdown in states as a last resort. Some states are imposing lockdowns and others are limited to impose restrictions. America’s top public health expert Dr. Anthony Fauci gave three suggestions to the government to break the transmission chain in India.

Dr. Fauci strongly believes in completely shutting down the nation for a minimum four weeks but not six months like in first wave. He argues that short term lockdown is necessary to break the chain of transmission in India. He wants complete lockdown when many states are going with partial lockdowns. He said that new virus mutations are driving the spike in India. As per his analysis, B117 which is like the UK variant is spreading in and around New Delhi and 617 variant seems to be more concentrated in Maharashtra. So, a timely lockdown would help the economy recover in the long run.

Increasing hospital beds, inoculating more people, speeding up vaccine production and accumulating more vaccines are possible suggestions that Dr. Fauci made to India. ICMR has indicated fear of a third wave is inevitable with new variants. Speedy vaccination to people will help India fight the third and subsequent waves. Last week, Dr. Fauci blamed developed countries for India’s destruction. Now, he advised that a collective fight can help India to overcome the pandemic.
