Demand for Russia’s Sputnik V

When Russian President Putin announced Sputnik-V in 2020, everyone couldn't take it seriously. The trial data of Sputnik-V was not disclosed by Russia. This raised many suspicions on the efficacy of the vaccine causing less demand from the takers. 

All of a sudden the demand for Sputnik-V has risen. India has started importing the vaccine from Russia because of unavailability of two homemade vaccines. First consignment of 1.5 lakh doses of Sputnik-V vaccine arrives in Hyderabad from Russia.



Germany wants to buy 30 million Sputnik-V vaccine doses. It is surprising that people from Germany are leaving for the Sputnik-V jab to Russia. Among EU nations, Germany is the worst affected nation after Italy. Germany is still continuing lockdown restrictions in the country. People in Germany are not confident to get vaccination in the country as early as possible. That’s the reason many people went to Russia to get herd immunity by getting shot from Sputnik-V. Russian government has created a package for tourists who will come to Russia including a tourist visa to stay in Moscow and vaccination for around 2000 Euros. Sputnik-V has not been approved in the EU.

 


Sputnik-V is Russia’s calling card around the world. Even though there are many questions about trial data, Sputnik-V vaccine has approved more than 60 nations in the world. President Vladimir Putin has personally promoted Sputnik-V to other nations and presented that Russia is a scientific super power. But people in Russia are still skeptical of Sputnik-V. In Russia the pandemic is almost far off memory. Many Germans have already booked their vaccination visit to Moscow. Sputnik-V is almost popular as a luxury item in the EU but it wasn’t so popular at home.

Please check the photo. It was in 1994 after TDP regains power in AP. Bhuma Nagi Reddy and SV Subba Reddy (father of Shobha Nagi Reddy) were met NTR along with their families. Bhuma Nagi Reddy was elected first time to Assembly as TDP candidate from Allagadda in 1992 bye-election. Again he was elected as MLA from same constituency in 1994 as TDP candidate. In 1991, late NTR decided not to field TDP nominee opposite first Telugu Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.
