The conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants continues to escalate. For other it’s familiar to see visuals of rocket fires and heavy bombing raids between Israel and Palestine but for the people in two nations they were anything but for routine.
Till now 212 people have lost their lives including 60 children in the conflict. Entire world is facing to fight against pandemic virus, these two nations busy in war. Where does India stand on oldest conflict of the West Asia?
Since few
days some enthusiasts have thrown themselves on either side of this conflict.
But Indian government is remaining silent on official stance of this issue till
now. When we see the history of India which has supported Palestine cause but
India has changed its stance and leave the issue by saying “De-Hyphenation
Policy”. It means that India maintains
independent relationship with two nations separately. Israel Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu had tweet which was not included India in the list of 25
countries thanks for their support of Israel attacks on Gaza.
In the past, India was the major Champion for the Palestinian cause which is the lone non-Arab nation. In 1975, Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) was even allowed to open its office in New Delhi. After 5 years the PLO office recognized with diplomatic status given by Indian government in 1980. India voted against the creation of Israel in 1948 and the nation didn’t try to establish good relations with Israel till 1992. Relationship with Israel start blossom in 1999 when Vajpayee formed the NDA government. Israel helped India on Defence Technology during Kargil war with Pak in 1999. India became Israel’s third largest trading partner since 2013. That’s the reason India unable to swing either side in this conflict.
