India and Indonesia second wave comparison

Indonesia is severely fighting a coronavirus pandemic. The country is grappling with one of Asia's worst pandemic outbreaks. The situation in Indonesia is verging on a catastrophe.

Amnesty International and other human rights organizations are pleading with the federal government to deliver urgent assistance in vaccines and oxygen to Indonesia as our near neighbor battles a terrifying third wave of COVID-19. More than 3K people have died of covid-19 during last week in Indonesia. What Indonesia in July is like India was two months back.

Both are Asian countries. India has the second largest population and Indonesia is the fourth largest in the world. The comparison is inevitable between two Asian nations after the health system collapsed in Indonesia. 75% of hospital beds are occupied and Oxygen and grave-yards shortage in Indonesia and similar scary scenes appeared in India as well  two months back. More than 60 people died in a hospital in Indonesia this weekend after oxygen supplies nearly ran out, as the country battles a severe wave of Covid-19.

Kumbhmela in April is one of the reasons for the second wave in India. Indonesia's relaxed travel restrictions during the Eid holiday in May might be the reason for the surge in cases in the country. The government has imposed partial lockdowns in Java and Bali islands. People are running short of hospitals and they are forced to buy Oxygen cylinders. As demand soars, the price for Oxygen in Indonesia has been doubled. Indonesia is preparing to import liquid oxygen from neighboring countries.
