Lot of ambiguity prevails on ICMR deadline

Pandemic virus has spread across all states in India. Total number of positive cases recorded in India crossed 6.5 lakh cases. 20K positive cases recorded in India on daily basis.

India stands at 4th place in world and expected to surpass Russia and reach to 3rd place within a week. All governments including Modi government are helpless in handling the crisis. People should follow self quarantine to protect themselves. People are really waiting for a vaccine than ever before. But countries like US, Germany and UK are trying to compete for getting the credit of coronavirus vaccine first to their nations.

Amid of corona outbreak, The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) announced good news to not only to India but to every nation. ICMR said that it aims to launch the Coronavirus vaccine being developed in partnership with Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech for public health use by August 15.  ICMR set deadline to Bharat Biotech asking for fast-tracking of the indigenous vaccine with an aim to launch by August 15. Not even 40 days. But there are many doubts and questions arise on ICMR deadline. Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR) decision to fast-track vaccine development for Covid-19 and set a deadline for August 15, the ICMR has issued a clarification stating that it has decided to fast track the process to cut red-tapeism and it is in accordance with global practice.

ICMR has stated that human trials must start on July 7 and be completed, and the data evaluated, so that the vaccine can be launched on August 15. It sparked fears that its safety and efficacy could be compromised to meet the “near impossible” timeline. Doubts on ICMR statement increased after seeing the experience of Patanjali. People have lot of trust and confidence on ICMR. Some of the physicians called the deadline as ridiculous. They worried that world will laugh at us once ICMR failed to reach the deadline.
