Island of 2 lac population fight with nation of 1.4 billion

There is no surprise if the fight between two similar strength of nations. But here, a small island is taking on mighty China. 

Malaita, the largest province of Solomon island wants for independence or announced referendum for Independence. Malaita said it will conduct an independence referendum after rejecting the Pacific nation’s decision last year to cut its association with Taiwan and establish formal ties with China.

Never underestimate a nation as underdog after seeing the experience of United States with Vietnam. US had finally accepted the defeat after fighting with small Vietnam for more than 19 years. Malaita has population of just 2 lakh people who called themselves as Malaitans. After getting independence in 1978, many Malaitans rose to prominence position in the island. There was lot of unrest happened in Solomon Islands between 1998 and 2003. China enters last year where national government of Solomon Islands took a decision of ended 36 year long relationship with Taiwan and wants to move with China. But people of Province Malaita protested the agreement and want to continue with Taiwan.

They want to live independent that forced the demand of referendum. Its leader wants an Independence referendum Malaita has always wanted to be free from Solomon Islands. Malaita has discussed plans with the US and its allies to develop a deep-sea port. This is counter to the interests of China which wants some development projects in Solomon Islands. China stopped medical teams sent by Taiwan to Malaita during this pandemic. China has started charter flights to Malaita Island. People of the Island obstructed China acts because of coronavirus. There are no positive cases reported in Solomon Islands. People Malatia asks Chinese tour operators to leave the nation. It wants to continue close relations with Taiwan. China wants to control Solomon Islands to challenge United States by using the deep-sea ports. Malaita is disturbing Dragon plans.
