Xi Jinping vaccine diplomacy




The entire world is looking for one thing unanimously is coronavirus vaccine. Every nation is desperately wants vaccine to survive irrespectively whether it is developed or underdeveloped. Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, Sputnik-V and Bharat Covaxin are in race at different stages for corona vaccine. Russia announced the Sputnik-V within 2 months whereas United States President Trump hopes the vaccine by the end of October. But China is doing in different way of business of coronavirus vaccine. There are reports that China is selling coronavirus vaccine without getting the approval from World Health Organization (WHO) it seems.


China offers its own made vaccine to southeast nations with all conditions. China has list of deals for selling its vaccine. Philippines and Indonesia are first nations approached China for vaccine. Though two nations have disputes with South China Sea, they want coronavirus vaccine from China. UAE approves Chinese vaccines for emergency use. China offer $1 bn loan to Latin America & Caribbean nations for vaccine. Bangladesh to get more than 1 lakh doses from Chinese company in return sino-vac has been allowed to run vaccine trials in Bangladesh.  Xi Jinping says that China offer coronavirus vaccine is for public good.


Indonesia has locked its territorial dispute with China in South China Sea but Indonesia wants vaccine from China. Xi Jinping assured Indonesia on supplying the vaccine. China wants to offer vaccine but terms and conditions apply to Southeast Asian nations will have to stop challenging China on South China Sea issue. Abu Dhabi has approved the emergency use of Chinese company. The company is running trials alongside a local partner in the UAE. But China didn’t provide transparency and data sharing of vaccine program, the worth of Chinese vaccines remains unproven.
