Why he is afraid to show tax returns? Will Trump go to jail?


Former President Donald Trump is once again backing to news headlines. Electronic and print media have predicted that Trump is one step closer to prison. 

The reason for their assumption is Supreme Court has rejected Donald Trump’s appeal to shield his tax returns which includes other financial documents. This is huge legal setback for former President. Donald Trump is the second United States President after Jimmy Carter who also not released his tax returns. Donald Trump has made several statements since 2014 on releasing his tax returns.


He said in 2014 that he will produce tax returns absolutely without fail. In January 2016, Donald Trump was still in dilemma in releasing tax returns and said that he had very big returns and his team is working on that over a period of time. Before nominating as Presidential nominee in February 2016, Trump said that releasing tax returns are very complicated issue. Trump is the only major party Presidential candidate in the post-Watergate era to never release any of his tax returns. Manhattan Dist Attorney, Cyprus Vance had subpoenaed Trump’s tax records in 2019. To counter, Trump Advocates had sued to block given written order in October 2020. Supreme Court has been rejected Trump plea after he lost the election.


Cyprus Vance’s staff will have the tough task of going millions of pages of financial documents. One team is working on this job and they carefully looking for any discrepancies in Trump’s returns. There are two major reasons for Trump’s reluctance in releasing his tax details are there is a possibility that former President avoid to pay taxes years together and he may have huge debts. Trump lashed out at Apex Court and criminal investigation against him. He said that investigation against him is the greatest political witch hunt. Whether he will be imprisoned or not will be depend on the report of the investigation against him.
