People across the world had known two things like Aung San Suu Kyi and military junta since 3 decades. She was house arrested for more than 16 years by Myanmar military from during 1989 to 2010. Aung San Suu Kyi got Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to restore democracy in the country in 1991.
Democracy is once again being ridiculed in Myanmar. The military in Myanmar was launched a coup and detained National League for Democracy (NLD) leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 01st. This time people reacted differently on military action. The sudden dethrone of Aung San Suu Kyi has prompted hundreds of thousands of people nationwide to march in protest.
Police used water cannons at protesters and warned on open fire in the capital Naypyidaw. Earlier, Myanmar military had an experience how to crackdown pro-democracy rallies. People shouted “Long live mother Suu”, “Down with military dictatorship” during the protest. They chant to free pro-democracy leader Suu Kyi and to end military dictatorship echoed on the streets. People wear Red color clothes which represents Suu Kyi’s NLD in protests. She was under house arrest again after the military took over. February 06th demonstration is the biggest ever in the country since 2007 Buddhist monk-led Saffron Revolution.
People are choosing different ways to show their resistance. Health care workers joined in the civil obedience campaign and stopped work to protest against military coup. Youth are showing interest to stick out tattoo for permanent reminder for their resistance. Military take all actions to control the movement from the people by blocking the Internet in Yangon city. The reason for the coup is mainly because of disputed election in November. NLD had won enough seats to form the government in the election that can’t digest to military. Protesters start their moment slowly and it has grown bigger and spread across the Myanmar.
