“I can’t breathe” and “Blacklives matter” two slogans shakes
entire United States 10 months back. #Blacklivesmatter is surge like global
moment against racism across all Western nations. George Perry Floyd Jr. was an
African American man killed during an arrest after a store clerk alleged he had
passed a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis.
Derek Chauvin, one of four police
officers who arrived on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck for a period initially
reported to be 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Floyd, a Black man, died after
Chauvin, a white 19-year veteran of the department, pressed his knee into
Floyd's neck for several minutes. Floyd is yelling “I can’t breathe!” “I can’t
breathe!” and died on May 25th, 2020.
The sad demise of George Floyd is also one of the reasons
for Donald Trump downfall in U.S. President Elections. The trial begins in
Minneapolis on police officer Derek Chauvin. Ex-Police officer denies murder
and manslaughter charges but if convicted could face up to 40 years in
imprisonment. Jurors heard witnesses describe the sorrowful final moments of
Floyd life. Derek Chauvin’s legal team put the blame on Floyd insisting that
poor health and drugs are the reasons for the death. It is very difficult for
them to prove Floyd’s ill health. Not only U.S. even entire world is looking
for end result of the trial. The first witness called in the trial against
Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd was a Minneapolis 911 dispatcher who
called police while witnessing Floyd's arrest.
Black Lives Matter (BLM) organized rallies in
the United States and worldwide from May 30 onwards, with protesters. BLM
protests were consequential for different reasons among those who voted Trump
and among those who voted Biden. Protests over the killing of black people by
police officers in the United States of America occupied a large part of 2020. Black
Lives Matter (BLM) protests matter in 2020’s US Presidential Elections, which
was also shadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to one survey, nine of
every 10 voters said the protests over police violence were a factor in their
voting.
