Political equations in Afghanistan are changing after the United States has decided to leave the country. Bargram Airfield was a strong bastion for U.S. military power in Afghanistan since 2001.
For nearly 20 years, Bagram Airfield was the heart of American military power in Afghanistan, a sprawling mini-city behind fences and blast walls just an hour’s drive north of Kabul. As per the existing scenario, Talibans might be active after U.S. forces left Afghanistan which is not good for India. The government of India has issued an advisory to it’s citizens in Afghanistan.
Reportedly, India has advised them to avoid non-essential travel on roads in highways in outskirts of Kabul. Advisory has cited the escalation of terrorist activities in the country and common citizens will be targets for Talibans. As per buzz, the advisory comes days after India and Taliban held discussions in Doha. This is the first time that India has held discussions with the Taliban terrorist group. It seems that India has changed it’s stance on Taliban in Afghanistan for the people who are living in the country.
Taliban will return with strength in Afghanistan after U.S. and NATO allies leave Afghanistan by July end. US drive to avenge the 9/11 attacks, then of its struggle for a way through the ensuing war with the Taliban. This might not only upset the balance of power within Afghanistan but all over Asia as well. The vacuum created by the foreign troop withdrawal is helping the Taliban gain power in Afghanistan. The Taliban could be launching large-scale attacks after the complete pullout of US troops. It is a very tough task for India to maintain friendly relations with Afghanistan as earlier.
