Audio App War - Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces

Revolution in Social Media has changed drastically after the 2000's. Yahoo introduced Yahoo Messenger, a chatting application which created a sensation in social media during the early 2000’s.

Afterwards, Rediff bol stepped into chatting for all Rediff users. In the middle of the 2K, Google’s Orkut entry was a social networking service owned and operated by Google in its later years. The service was designed to help users meet new and old friends and maintain existing relationships. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram aroused a phenomenal following as popular Social Media platforms. Most of the people who use smartphones have their accounts in all or either of these platforms.

People are talking about two Audio apps for three months like Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. Huge discussions and comparisons take place in social media on pros and cons of these two. Clubhouse is a platform that facilitates real-time audio rooms that enable both listening and passive listening, but also engagement from the audience. The app Clubhouse began as a social media startup by founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth in 2019 and officially released in March 2020. The best way to think of this App is like a big hallway full of different rooms with virtual stages.

It is for everyone to get experience like a little bit of podcast, a little bit of conference, a little bit of Twitter and radio. Knowing the latest trend and passion of the people, Twitter also launched Spaces which is similar audio app like Clubhouse. Twitter launched Spaces, a feature that allows users to join virtual rooms where they can engage in real-time, audio conversations with others on May’2021. Here are some differences that I observed after using two apps.

·        Through Twitter one can go with the circle icon versus squircle of Clubhouse.

·        The purple circle indicates that there is space going on right now and you can join whereas in Clubhouse you will see the pop-up message like 'You're invited'

·        Twitter added 'Spaces' within the network but we used to download the Clubhouse app.

·        Twitter has millions of users across the world that made new feature Spaces with huge success while Clubhouse is new to the market and garners a lot of attention within a year.

·        Clubhouse is made to have only audio conversation with the people while Twitter Spaces is just more than the audio.

·        Clubhouse has provided different rooms every time as per the user's interests to join while in Twitter Spaces user can get notification for the chat on a particular topic

·        We can use emojis in Twitter Spaces but can’t possible in Clubhouse.

·        15 million Clubhouse is contrasted with 350 million Twitter Spaces.

Clubhouse is using lockdown and quarantine period to emerge the audio app among the people. It seems that Facebook and Instagram also jumped into the bandwagon and launched similar audio based chat rooms on their platforms. It’s testing time for newly emerged Clubhouse to face its strong rivals in the social media market.
