The World Health Organization (WHO) has validated
China’s Sinovac coronavirus vaccine for emergency use. This is the second
vaccine from China and a total of eight vaccines from different nations got WHO
approval for emergency use.
Like other vaccines, patients over 18 years need to vaccinate Sinovac with two jabs with a maximum gap of four weeks. Currently, Sinovac has been approved in more than 40 countries before WHO approval. Though China produced two vaccines, it lacks much demand from other nations for Sinopharm and Sinovac. WHO has internally put criteria for getting approved any covid-19 vaccine it must be at least 50% effective at preventing the disease. But Sinovac prevented symptomatic disease in 51% of those vaccinated and prevented severe symptoms and hospitalization in 100% of samples.
China predicts huge demand for Sinovac once after getting approval from WHO. Chile, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Turkey are being administered the Sinovac vaccine. One of Sinovac's main advantages is that it can be stored in a standard refrigerator at 2-8 degrees Celsius. This is pretty much useful for developing nations to store the vaccine for a long time at the time of vaccination campaign. Experts in Brazil have said that a Brazilian city saw a 95% drop in Covid deaths after it vaccinated almost all of its adults with Sinovac.
It’s Sinopharm vaccine from China got approved as emergency use for pandemic virus. Chinese two vaccines don’t have much demand when compared to the other six vaccines approved by WHO. It is the million dollar question how WHO approved Sinovac even though some evidence and trial data gaps have.
