Don't get surprised. But it is true. Legendary Music director A.R. Rehman was indirectly responsible for IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's twitter block. Differences between Social Media giant Twitter and Indian government are going on. Twitter has it's objections to new compliance rules framed by Indian government.
For two weeks there was a fight between Twitter and Indian government on compliance rules. Blocking of Ravi Shankar Prasad's account added fuel to fire. On June 25th, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad failed to access his Twitter account for more than one hour.
Twitter blocked his account because one of Prasad's tweets dating back to 2017 had violated U.S. copyright law. Twitter has revealed that the IT Minister's account faced the action due to a copyright claim by Sony Music. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad reportedly shared "Maa Thuje Salaam" song as tribute to Indian army. IT Minister's action as infringing URL which was the violation as per Twitter copyright policy. Minister said users should also be able to contest or accept the claimed violation. Ravi Shankar Prasad also said that direct suspension of one's account without taking confirmation from the user is not correct.
Afterwards Twitter confirmed that IT Minister's account access was temporarily stopped due to violation of copyright. Twitter said that it received a complaint on June 25 and took action against Ravi Shankar Prasad's account. Not only Twitter, even Whatsapp also did not agree with new IT rules. Whatsapp sued the government over the rules which violates user privacy policy. It objects mainly to trace the originator message. Twitter is going a little bit aggressive on Indian politicians. One month back, it removed bluetick from VP Venkaiah Naidu account and now the tussle with the IT minister.
