In Britain the new mutation of the variant is only just named “Delta” by the World Health Organization but people in the UK believe it to be an Indian variant. The Delta virus has unleashed a wave of prejudice against Indians among the UK people in Britain.
If it is Indian variant it is much safer to vaccinate quickly. People have a common opinion on Indian variants. Even English media openly published the Indian variant dominant in the UK. This causes rightist people to use it as an excuse to bring Xenophobia and racism against Indians who are living in the UK.
People used to walk away from the Indians even in the streets. The UK government has declared some South-Asian areas in Britain as ‘Red Zones’ after early reports of a concentration of the virus in these areas. WHO labeled this as Delta variant but not Indian variant. Delta virus has not confined to just Indians living areas. The Delta virus is completely different to other viruses born in the UK like Alpha, Kent and Bolton variants. It spreads much faster than the previous strain viruses.
The Delta variant contains multiple mutations in the spike protein. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer vaccine are likely to have more than 5 times lower levels of neutralizing antibodies against Delta. Just 1 dose of Pfizer vaccine provides higher community against The Alpha variant. Levels of these antibodies might lower when there is an increase in the age of the person. As per government study, the Delta variant is behind the second wave in India.
