Pakistan that promoted terrorism and has now lost its composure in the country. From convicting Lashkar-e-Taiba’s founder to banning several groups that have featured on global terror lists, Pakistan is eager to get off FATF’s grey list.
Pakistan temporarily bans social media platforms in wake of ongoing protests for few hours on April 16th. Why the protests take place in Pakistan? Anti-French sentiment is festering for months in Pakistan. Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) Pakistan is a far-right Islamist political party blames that French media insults Islam’s Prophet in French media.
TLP is using Social Media platform and threatens to spread hate in Pakistan on French people with hashtags like #FranceLeavePakistan. Several TLP protesters gave open call for the death of French ambassador. French government tells it’s citizens to leave Pakistan. They used Friday Namaz prays for their rally in the country. Anti-France sentiments are at their peak in Pakistan. TLP is no ordinary party it is always has secret backing of ISI for TLP activities. Pakistan army brought Tehreek-e-Labbaik by into the mainstream in 2017. Pak army used TLP to destabilize then Nawaz Shariff government and supported Imran Khan to power.
Pakistan’s religious extremism problem did not begin with the TLP and will not end with a legal ban on that group. Earlier, LeT and JeM have played most active role in religious extremism in and outside of Pakistan. TLP protesters clashed with the police against the arrest of leader Saad Rizvi on April 12th. Anti-French sentiment has simmering in Pakistan since the France government supported a satirical magzine’s freedom of speech. TLP forced the Pak government to ban French products. Assuming the criticality in advance, Imran Khan has detained Rizvi and announced ban of TLP in the country. That’s the reason Pakistan blocked social media access amid of anti-French rallies in the country.
