Europe is in middle of tense of third wave of coronavirus. Except United Kingdom, no other country can handle the pandemic virus effectively. Europe has surpassed one million covid fatalities and the situation is remains serious with 1.6 million cases reported every week.
Nearly 3 million deaths have been linked to COVID-19 worldwide with the Americas hardest hit, followed by Europe. The United States, Brazil and Mexico have reported the highest number of deaths, collectively at more than 1.1 million. France reports one lakh coronavirus deaths where as Germany extended it’s lockdown restrictions further in the country.
Germany is unable to speed up the vaccination rollout programme because of gradual spike in number of positive cases. Italy is the worst affected nation in first wave of coronavirus in 2020 whereas Germany is facing worst ever situation than any other nation in EU in 2021. United Kingdom in particular has seen new infections and COVID-19 deaths drop dramatically since January, due to a successful vaccination program and a prolonged national lockdown that is only being reversed in stages. Adding to that, European nations put temporary ban on AstraZeneca due to many complaints causes delay in vaccination campaign. Germany has extended its current restrictions until 18 April but federal states are able to introduce their own rules. Italy has continued lockdown measures till April 30. Instead of complete or partial lockdown, Denmark government has issued corona pass to the citizens over 15 years of age. It will enable people to fulfill the requirements. Greece government has announced the opening of borders on 14 May for all travellers who have been vaccinated or who provide a negative coronavirus test. Earlier, they planned to open the borders from April 2nd week. Countries should have pay more attention while opening borders in EU. Pandemic virus is surge in one nation but not in other among the EU nations. On other side of the coin, people were participated in anti-lockdown protests in EU.
