US and Germany empty-handed to India

Narendra Modi government was blamed for the huge surge of the second wave in the country for two reasons. Primary reason is Modi government exported Indian made vaccines to other nations in the name of “Vaccine Diplomacy” and later reason is exporting Oxygen to 8 countries amid a second wave of pandemic surge. 

That pushed India into deep trouble. “No Vaccine” and “No Oxygen” placards are common in every Indian hospital. Now, India is forced to import vaccines from other nations. Policy decisions taken by the United States and Germany are purely against India. 


India asked US officials to lift the restrictions imposed on export of raw materials which came into force since February. The US has defended curbs on exports of raw materials needed by India to make Covid-19 vaccines. When Donald Trump was the President, India considers his request and exported Hydroxychloroquine in bulk to United States which is malaria drug used for the treatment of coronavirus in April’20. India desperately needs raw material for the production of coronavirus vaccine. If the US lifts the embargo of raw material exports, vaccine production will speed-up in India at Seerum Institute. But as per the Defense Production Act 1950, US companies give priority to the production of coronavirus vaccines for domestic use. 


German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave warning to India on promising pharmaceutical products to Germany. Expressing her sympathy towards the second wave in India, Merkel made sarcasm on Indian status of the pharmaceutical hub. As per her context, Europe allowed India to become a large pharmaceutical producer. Merkel's statement seems that India will become pharmaceutical hub on the mercy of EU nations. Angela Merkel was worried that EU countries will not receive enough medicines from India as there is a huge surge in Covid-19 cases in the country. She added pharma products will be available despite the situation favors or not. Every country implemented vaccine diplomacy for their people first and other next.
