When the Taliban feel everything as they expected in capturing Afghanistan, one province has strongly resisted Taliban governance. The entire Afghanistan fell to the Taliban except Panjshir valley which is the epicenter of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan stood against Taliban.
Two leaders Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh are behind Panjshir resistance. Russia has confirmed that a Taliban resistance is forming in Afghanistan's Panjshir Valley led by vice president Amrullah Saleh and Ahmad Massoud, the son of a famed anti-Taliban fighter.
Panjshir valley exists just 100 kms away from Kabul which was never conquered by foreigners or Taliban groups. It is the last province to fight against the mighty Taliban in Afghanistan. Panjshir had a strong history earlier too. It stood united against Soviet invasions of Afghanistan in the 1970s and 1980s. It has a population of just 173,000 and has Bazarak it’s capital. Self-declared caretaker President of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh is from Panjshir. Ahmad Massoud whose father Ahmed Shah Massoud was killed by Al Qaeda & Taliban in 2001. Ahmad Massoud is leading a military force called the Northern Alliance in the valley.
Initially, the Northern Alliance
was supported by Iran, India and Tajikistan during 90s.The Taliban have not
attacked Panjshir and many believe that it is because of the location of the
valley, which makes it a natural fortress. As per reports both Saleh and
Massoud are preparing to attack Taliban with guerilla movement. The whereabouts
of Amrullah Saleh is not known but he is believed to be in Panjshir. Both are
trying to involve the people against the Taliban. Video is circulating in
social media that Ahmad Massoud is urging Afghans to join for the freedom of
the country. But it will be a tough task for them to resist the Taliban.
