The report was prepared by the NIMD Expert Committee set up under the guidance of the Union Home Ministry. However the third wave intensity is expected to be lower compared to the second phase. The report points out that there is an 82 percent shortage of pediatricians in primary health centers and a 63 percent shortage of vaccines in community health centers. The government didn't take steps as per the severity of the pandemic virus. The situation could worsen due to inadequate measures taken, lack of adequate medical facilities and delay in vaccination.

As per the report, India will see up to 4-5 lakh new coronavirus positive cases daily during October month. It has said that there will be 23% hospitalization in the current surge. NITI Aayog asked the Union Government to get 2 lakh ICU beds by this time. As fear of a third wave looms, India approves vaccines for children above 12 years. Govt should prioritize vaccination among the children and to focus on those with disabilities. India witnessed a sharp decline in coronavirus cases in recent days. The R-value, which is the reproduction rate of COVID-19, increased from 0.96 to 1 in the last few days of July. The possibility of a third wave affecting children more adversely than adults.
