Around 3 lakh people have been left homeless or displaced. Some of the analysts compared Lebanon blasts with Hiroshima blats in 1945 during World War II. Some said that these blats are believed to be one of the largest Non-Nuclear blasts in world history.
Damage of Lebanon explosions expected run between three to five billion dollars. The biggest question among the people is this. Was these explosions are accidental? Was it a Terrorist attack? The reasons for these explosions are caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate which is used as agricultural fertilizer. There are two blasts in the port area of Beirut where 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored. The government is still clueless on exact cause of the blasts. The first blast may be happened at fireworks warehouse and the fire then spread to the stockpile of ammonium nitrate which was stored in depot since 2014.
As per Lebanese authorities, the quantum of ammonium nitrate could amount to 1,800 tons of TNT, or 1.8 kilotons. The explosion yield of the atomic bomb dropped over Hiroshima has been pegged between 12 and 15 kilotons. Lebanon explosions are one sixth of Hiroshima’s in 1945. But these explosions leave the nation into many troubles. Lebanon is suffering with the value of it’s currency Lebanese pound which had plunged. There was a influx of refugees from neighboring Syria after pandemic virus. These explosions are big blow to Lebanon’s economy. It has destroyed it’s biggest port which was used for central storage location for Lebanon’s grain.
