Chinese President starts launching new campaign on not to waste food to the people. He called ‘Operation empty plate’ targeting wastage of food. Of Course! Wastage of food is not good for any nation or person.
But there are lots of doubts over sudden call of Chinese President. ‘Operation empty plate’ was launched in 2013 which was applicable to feasts and official receptions, now China government wants to applicable to entire nation. He said waste is shameful and thriftiness is honorable. Restaurants have been to tell offer smaller portions of the food and consumers have been to eat frugally.
In realty,
China is fear of food security to its people. The nation is going to face
severe food crisis it seems. The ground realty is China’s crops have been wiped
out by severe floods. Food prices are in rise across the nation. China is still
not self-reliant on food production. The nation has depends 20 to 30% of food
grains from others to cater food for 1.4 billion people. As of from 2017 data,
the value of China’s food imports comes around $105 billion. China relies on
other nations to feed its people. But Chinese President has forgotten this. He
exported Wuhan virus to world and provoking with every nation forgetting all
these. China has trade war with United States which imports food grains from US
worth of $5.5 billion. China is getting food grains imports from Laos, Vietnam
and Australia. Beijing is engaged with these nations in South China Sea.
China was
imported agricultural products from India in 2018-19 for a worth of more than
$19 million. Aggressive Beijing has involved the confrontation with all these
countries after the outbreak of pandemic virus by ignoring the fact of
importing the agricultural products. Entire supply chain has been impaired
because of Wuhan virus. Reportedly, the affected countries are refusing engage
with China because of its aggressive foreign policy. To ignore and overcome all
these, Xi Jinping made an appeal to people on wastage of food. He hides the
facts on Wuhan Virus and now on shortage of food to his people. In the month of
June, Beijing imports 910K tons of wheat which 197% of increase on Year-on-Year
and 880K tons of corn which is 23% of increase on Year-on-Year. Recent floods
in China increase the woes of food security.
