All eyes are now at United Kingdom. Vaccine for pandemic virus arrives to UK for the distribution. Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been granted emergency authorization by British regulators, and the first doses are expected to be rolled out from early next week.
Why UK is first nation to get the vaccine when America and India suffer more than UK? There are two reasons that made Pfizer vaccine supplied to UK first. Active role was played by independent regulator, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) during the process and Pfizer given complete legal protection from UK government.
First batch of Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine arrived at a hospital in London. Britain is getting ready to distribute first national vaccination programme in world. The first vaccines are set to be administered on December 08th. Around 800K doses are expected to be available coming first week. Authorities will start vaccinating those over 80 years of age, frontline healthcare workers and care home staff as their first priority. United States is expected to grant authorization for the widespread use of a covid-19 vaccine soon. The MHRA began a rolling review of Pfizer and BioNTech data from October, with each "package" of data reviewed as soon as it became available. This allowed regulators to examine the data in detail before a final authorization application was submitted. MHRA approach helped accelerate the authorization process.
Companies will fall in risk if the vaccine failed to work as per their assumptions. UK government has granted pharmaceutical giant Pfizer a legal indemnity protecting it from being sued, enabling its coronavirus vaccine to be rolled out across the country as early as next week. The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed the company has been given an indemnity protecting it from legal action as a result of any problems with the vaccine. Britain has been one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic, with the highest death toll in Europe, and its government has been heavily criticized for its handling of the crisis.
